Road trip 2012 - Day 4 in Washington DC

Day 4 was National Archives and U.S. Capitol

You can't take photos here, but here are some from the website that show what it's like inside.

All the Charters of Freedom are in this room.

My kids' favorite part were the armed guards at each document.  Aunt Wendy bribed Jedi to ask one of them if he'd shoot if he (Jedi) tried to steal one.  LOL!

Potter was bummed that the writing is so faded, but what do you expect?

Next we walked up the road to the Capitol.  Long, sweaty walk.  And not worth it.

We scheduled the Capitol tour in place of a White House tour because you can't take bags or backpacks in the White House.  Fair enough, but we need to have a bag with us.  We had 8 people gone morning ot night away from a hotel rrom.

Well, it turns out we couldn't have our backpack at the Capitol either.  So we bagged it and just took photos outside.  Except we had to go to the bathroom terribly, so we left Potter outside briefly and we all went through the security checkpoint (airport style) just to potty and go back out.

I don't know who took this, but I was HOT.

On the way back to the $22 parking garage (ouch, but still better than the $50 Metro) Strider and the kids found a cute little fairyland down below street level.  It even had a very welcome drinking fountain.

Not my favorite day of the trip, but it's all good.

We had to document the hilarious plates that D.C. uses.
'Taxation without representation'!

(My camera spent these two days super super blurry!  Sad!)

  1. To be fair, I don't know that Aunt Wendy did all the bribing to ask the guard if he'd shoot someone trying to steal the Constitution. In fact, I think Mom Jenny had a little bit to do with that :)
