Baby turns 5

Little Rosebud is getting less little every day.  Don't they all?  She turned 5 last week.

We had a fun date on her birthday.  With a few days left on our Thanksgiving Point  membership we decided to make the trek to Utah County and visit with the birthday girl, just her and I.  We packed a lunch and even  stopped by my mom's work to say hi while we were nearby.  I don't have pics cause I didn't want to keep track of my camera down there.

Rosebud is a big lover of ice cream, so I did an ice cream cake for the first time.  It wasn't too hard.  Photographing the dang thing was nearly impossible though.

I thought I had a cake board left, but didn't realize I was out till it was time to stack the layers.  I settled on my great-grandma's antique platter.  It looked girly and needs to get used more anyway!

After a failed attempt at using these Wilton Sugar Sheets to make a ballerina silhouette to lay on the cake, we chose a little Barbie figurine from Target that could be played with later.

Rosebud picked pretty pink pearls to line the edges with.  They are truly beautiful, just don't break a tooth on them!

The frosting is a mix of cool whip and vanilla pudding mixed with only half the amount of milk called for.  It held up well with the ice cream cake and froze nicely.

Little punk took off her cute birthday outfit and changed into her last year's dance recital costume right before guests arrived.

She got a set of Barbies, a set of Frozen figurines, two Barbie movies , a pop up play tent, and an outfit.  So fun!

The cake is a 9x13 split into two layers, and a layer of vanilla ice cream in the middle.  I lined the cake pan with saran wrap, then froze ice cream in it overnight.  Then frosted in the morning before our adventures.  It was perfect in the evening when we had the party.

We love her with all our hearts!

Another teen!

Bugs turned 13 a couple days after Thanksgiving.

I bit my lip and made this silly kid a Utah cake.  It almost made my eyes burn.  :)

We added 13 satellite cupcakes.

He got spoiled, totally.

We love him so much!

Puppy Cake

Princess turned 7 last week, and requested a puppy cake.  Huh?  I quickly went to Pinterest for help.

Found one!

The tutorial here from Banksyface is very detailed and was simple to follow.

I began with two 9" round yellow cakes and tan tinted buttercream.

I started placing the cut pieces as shown as assembled the shape of the body.

Using tip #233, the grass/hair tip, I added fur all over.  And more fur.  And more fur.  Till it was all covered.

The nose was a tootsie roll (I thought it would be darker brown).  In hindsight I would have preferred a junior mint I think.  The eyes were beans.  The tongue a flavored tootsie roll.  The collar is ribbon.  In the example all her embellishments are fondant.

Here you can see the roughest part for me: the front of the legs.  The vertical surface was immensely difficult to pipe fur onto.  But I perservered.

He's so cute, and I'm not even a dog lover.

One cake is never enough to feed all of us, so I made cupcakes to supplement.

The idea for the dog bone cupcakes from Scooby Doo grahams came from Nothing but Country, also via Pinterest.  But I put mine on backwards, as I didn't want the "Scooby" showing.

I think Princess was happy with her cake.  And I was so proud of it that I didn't want to cut it.  In fact, it's Sunday and we still haven't eaten the cute face!

Crown cake

Rosebud turned 3 on Saturday!  I will blog that tomorrow, but here is the cake.

I found my inspiration here at family.go.com

I baked an 8 inch layer and a 10 inch layer with 2 cake mixes between the two of them.  Dang, those Wilton pans rock.

I leveled them and put a layer of filling in each.

Then I frosted and stacked the tiers.

I didn't have access to the large round sprinkles in the example and couldn't find a candy close enough.  So I used giant conversation hearts...

...and put a crown on top.

Oh yeah, I also did 2 two-layer 6 inch satellite cakes for princesses to sit on.

It was more work than I expected it to be, but I was pleased enough with the results.
