A laugh a minute (or more)

Ah, Mr. Brian Regan.  You are a funny man.  We were lucky enough to get tickets for Christmas again (we went a year or two ago when he was in town) and we were in the front row this time.

This is taken from my lap.  No zoom.  The stool with his water bottles on it is at the back of the stage.  Obviously, this is before it began.  You can't record or photograph. 

We braved a huge storm and trekked all over downtown while getting drenched - and it was worth every second.  The ruffles on my homemade ruffle shirt?  Soaked, lol.

I laughed so hard my cheeks burned and I was actually crying when he did a bit about bagpipes and marching bands.  I seriously love his style.  ALL new material and I was so impressed. 

(The post title comes from a "compliment" he got once from someone who attended a show.  He told Brian it was a laugh a minute.  Since that's not a great ratio of actual laughter for a comedian, he was hoping to give us a reason to chuckle a lot more often than that :)

Way too much slush for walking in flats.  Oh well.

We even went to my fave cheesesteak shop.  Fan-stinkin-tastic date!!

I hope all the new stuff this weekend means that a new DVD might be on its way?  We shall see!

Music to my ears

Strider kissed me goodbye this morning and said,

"SO, where are we going on a date tonight?"

Ahh, the language of love to this tired stay at home mom!

Feelin' Good

Life is good. As I move into my second trimester things are looking rosy again. My hubby smells better (ha ha!). My kids are back to getting the occasional real meal. It's like I feel like myself again! I even have a new calling at church which renews my spirit and I am looking forward to serving in a new way.

Last weekend was our anniversary and we got to stretch it out over about three days which was very cool. Thanks to all three sisters who facilitated the weekend in one way or another we were able to go to the temple to do sealings, The Roof (a fabulous restaurant downtown), and spend a night at the Alaskan Inn in Ogden Canyon. I recommend both highly!

It was all very beautiful and it was great to do something a bit extravagant (for us at least), as the next couple years with a baby won't allow us to be away as easily.

No, not "I Love You", although that's nice.

La Caille

Last night was Strider's promotion night for the 9th graders at his Jr High. It was at La Caille, a prestigious French restaurant in the mountains of Salt Lake City. Yeah, I know.

They hold various fundraisers all year in order to pay for the special event. It was really neat to see all these kids who mean so much to him and are the reason he is so passionate about his job. It's never been something I've understood completely, but after 5 hours around these kids, I can see that they love him!

Don't bother me; I'm eating

What an interesting date hubby and I had this past weekend. My sis took the kids on Friday which was surprising and generous. I sometimes have a hard time believing people want care of my children on purpose. But whatever. Strider and I, plus 2 hours of uninterrupted time.

We have only been to Lowe's 427 times this month so we began our date by dropping another $80 there. We still needed paint and stain for the kitchen, so what better way to spend the time, right? Well, we were hungry, but I didn't want to spend much of anything. At all. Then I remembered my coupon.

Oh yeah.

On the back of a lone BYU football ticket I had a 'buy one Six Dollar Burger, get one free" coupon for Carl's Jr. That's like a four dollar and fifty cent coupon!!

I have been saving it for a lazy date night just like this.

Through a strange 15 minutes of twilight zone, and dialogue I can no longer recall accurately, they messed up my order twice and then when it was all said and done, we had THREE six dollar burgers and an enormous drink for nothing. Free.

So strange and so cool.

Yum.

Youth Conference was great! My class went smoothly and I got many compliments afterward. The bishopric and their wives were also invited on Sat to hear the testiomonies and have dinner. It was really neat and I'm glad I was there.

Busy Busy! That's my week so far. My little sister gets married in a week and I've been doing lots of stuff to get ready. Also, one of her showers was last night and her personal shower is tomorrow. Most of it ius being done by my sisters and I. The one last night was really fun, actually, and she got some very nice things. We decorated with red roses and it was simple but pretty. It was a lot of fun to work on a project with W and A. We don't get to do much of that.

Tonight we are headed to a restaurant while the kids are at grandma's. I'm looking forward to it. After that I need to make a double batch of cupcakes for the Saturday shower. I'm borrowing an icing tip and doing a cool technique to make them pretty :) Outside I've been spray painting hers and her fiance's initials to hang from pretty ribbons on Mom's front door.

Chore report: I've done fairly well with the bedroom. Not getting out of control anymore, but could use a little more of my focus. I also am making a pretty good effort at doing a load of laundry every day. I have noticed that the hampers are no longer perpetually overflowing. I thought it would be harder than it has been. Surprisingly manageable!

Dh has also been doing little projects that have stacked up: carpet cleaning, weeding the front bed edges, burned-out bulbs, bathroom cabinet hardware. Still need to get locking knob for the bedroom and switch it for the bathroom one that's really in bad shape. Maybe we'll look at prices while we are out tonight. I think we'll rent a movie, too.
